There is an art to writing screen directions. All descriptive prose is in the present tense and refers only to that which can be seen or heard from the screen. Don’t tell us what just happened or is about to happen. Don’t describe things abstractly or generally. Don’t give internal states such as “decides,” “realizes,” “feels,” etc. The challenge of screenwriting is to show your character’s internal states externally and to communicate your story through visuals and action.
